V Narayanan is set to become the new chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and the Secretary of the Department of Space.

According to news reports, he will take over from S Somanath on January 14, when his tenure ends.

Cabinet's Appointments Committee issued an order on January 7 stating Narayanan will serve as the chairman of ISRO for two years. He is currently the director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC) in Valiamala.

He played a key role in developing the CE20 Cryogenic Engine for GSLV Mk III, a vital component in India's space progress. During his tenure, the LPSC delivered 183 Liquid Propulsion Systems and Control Power plants for various ISRO missions. He has been a significant contributor to the ISRO missions, notably the Aditya Spacecraft and GSLV Mk-III missions.
