On Monday, US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi as the Biden administration prepares to hand over charge to the Trump Administration. This will mark Sullivan's last visit to the Indo-Pacific region as the NSA.
Jaishanjar on a post on X acknowledged Sullivan's "personal contribution" to the enhanced India-US partnership over the years.
Sullivan is in India for a "capstone meeting" with the Indian NSA Ajit Doval. White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby had earlier announced that India and US will discuss a range of issues from space, defence, strategic technology cooperation and shared security priorities in the Indo-Pacific region.
The two NSAs will review the progress in bilateral defence engagement and cooperation under the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET).
Sullivan is also scheduled to visit the Indian Institute of Technology campus in Delhi where he will interact with young Indian entrepreneurs. He will deliver a speech outlining the steps that India and the US have taken together to collaborate under the iCET.
The Indian Express believes the US NSA's visit to India is an important gesture by the Biden administration highlighting the bipartisan nature of the partnership.
According to The Indian Express, Sullivan has been discussing with his colleagues the FBI case against Indian officials for plotting to kill pro-Khalistani separatists in the US. The Indian administration had dismissed from service an intelligence official charged by the FBI. An inquiry committee was also set up to investigate the issue. The two sides are expected to discuss the issue.
