Former US President Donald Trump, in a speech at the Detroit Economic Club, accused India of imposing steep tariffs on American goods. Trump alleged that India “probably charges more” than China in terms of tariffs.
Trump recounted a meeting with Harley-Davidson executives during his presidency, where they reportedly told him India charged tariffs as high as 150% on their motorcycles. He claimed this led the company to build a manufacturing plant in India to avoid these charges, indicating India as “a very big charger” in terms of tariffs.
Trump underscored the importance of “reciprocity” in international trade, suggesting it would be a major part of his economic plans should he return to office.
