The Central Electricity Authority's National Electricity Plan-Transmission, under the Ministry of Power, projects an increase in Tamil Nadu's electricity demand by 7,000 megawatts (MW) due to green hydrogen and green ammonia production. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has identified coastal regions in Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu (Tuticorin), and Karnataka as locations for manufacturing these green energy products.
Initial estimates suggest that by 2026-27, electricity demand across India for green hydrogen and green ammonia production will reach 10,500 MW, with Tamil Nadu accounting for 1,500 MW.
