The United States will remove long-standing restrictions on Indian nuclear entities to facilitate deeper civil nuclear cooperation with American companies, said US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Monday.

Sullivan highlighted the move as essential for realising the full potential of the 2008 India-US civil nuclear deal. Formal delisting of Indian nuclear entities is expected soon.

He also discussed growing defence and technology ties and the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor’s potential to rival China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Additionally, Sullivan urged alignment on export controls and measures to prevent dual-use technology transfers to Russia.

Sullivan also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss advancements in the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, focusing on technology, defence, space, civil nuclear cooperation, clean energy, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence.
