According to media reports, American billionaire entrepreneur and philanthropist Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs, is expected to attend the mega-congregation of Hindu monks at Mahakumbh slated to begin on 13 January and to go on til 26 February.
The Times of India reported that she is expected to stay at the camp of Swami Kailashananda, the Mahamandaleshwar of the Niranjani Akhara. She will participate in various rituals and take a dip at the Sangam (the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers). She will also observe Kalpavas, a spiritual practice followed during the event.
The Mahakumbh attracts many major celebrities from around the globe. In addition to Laurene, Sudha Murthy, Savitri Jindal, actress Hema Malini, Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, industrialist Naveen Jindal, businessman Gopichand Ahuja, ghazal singer Anup Jalota, and actor Rakhi Sawant are also scheduled to attend the event.
Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, was well known for his admiration for Indian spirituality. He visited the Neem Karoli Baba’s ashram in Kainchi, Uttarakhand in the 1970s to seek spiritual enlightenment. He attributed his vision of simplicity and focus to being derived from the spiritual journey he did in India.
