According to Bihar police, Prashant Kishor, the founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, was detained early Monday morning. He had undertaken a fast-unto-death demanding the cancellation of a recruitment examination held by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). He was picked up by the police from Gandhi Maidan in Patna

PTI reported that he was taken to Patna AIIMS for a medical examination. District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh declared the protest at Gandhi Maidan "illegal" because it was being conducted at a "restricted" site.

Kishor began his indefinite hunger strike on January 2 in support of the students seeking the cancellation of the BPSC exam held on December 13, 2024. For almost two weeks, students have been demonstrating at Gandhi Maidan.
