Congress-NC clinches J&K, BJP retains Haryana

National Conference wins big in Jammu and Kashmir: The National Conference (NC) emerged as the largest party in Jammu and Kashmir’s Assembly elections, winning 42 out of 90 seats, while its ally, the Congress, secured only six. Omar Abdullah, who won from Ganderbal and Budgam, is likely to become the next Chief Minister, according to party sources. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained its stronghold in Jammu with 29 seats but failed to reach the halfway mark.

BJP secures third term in Haryana with 48 seats, Congress rejects result: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a third consecutive victory in the Haryana Assembly election, winning 48 of 90 seats, marking its best performance yet despite the defeat of eight ministers and the Speaker. Congress, which won 37 seats, rejected the results, alleging manipulation and questioning the integrity of the democratic process. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh called it a "defeat of transparent and democratic processes."

AI Fund makes first India investment in healthcare firm Jivi: Andrew Ng-led AI Fund has made its first Indian investment, backing Gurugram-based healthcare startup Jivi. The company utilises artificial intelligence (AI) to suggest diagnoses, recommend treatments, generate reports, and manage administrative tasks. India's AI sector is projected to more than double, reaching up to $22 billion by 2027, according to a Nasscom-BCG report.

Airtel in talks with Tata Group for Tata Play acquisition: Bharti Airtel is in advanced discussions with the Tata Group to acquire Tata Play, India's largest direct-to-home (DTH) provider. The deal aims to boost Airtel’s digital TV segment and strengthen its bundled services, targeting higher non-mobile revenues through service convergence. 

India leads global natural gas contracts, securing 30% share in 2024: India signed contracts for 15 billion cubic metres of natural gas from post-Final Investment Decision (FID) projects between January and August 2024, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Globally, 50 BCM of gas contracts were inked during this period, with India cornering the largest share at 30%. 

India advances green energy and oil exploration

India to invest $25 million in hydrogen hubs for green shipping: Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, announced at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference that India will invest $25 million to establish hydrogen hubs at Deendayal, Paradip, and V.O. Chidambaranar ports, supporting the country’s green shipping ambition. Joshi also highlighted India’s renewable energy growth, with a 175 per cent increase in capacity since 2014, now surpassing 208 GW.

India to pass new law for offshore oil investment next month: India will soon introduce a new law to encourage investments in offshore oil exploration, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Tuesday. The law, set for the next parliament session, will replace the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act of 1948.
