Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez inaugurated Tata's new C-295 aircraft manufacturing complex in Vadodara, Gujarat, on 28 October. The Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) facility is India’s first private sector Final Assembly Line for military aircraft, as part of a Rs 21,935 crore ($2.63 billion) deal signed with Airbus Defence and Space SA in 2021.
The agreement involves 56 C-295 aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF), with 16 delivered from Spain and the remaining 40 assembled locally. So far, six aircraft have arrived, with the seventh expected by year-end. The Vadodara complex will handle everything from assembly to maintenance, creating a complete aerospace ecosystem in India.
The Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, marked the day as a key step forward for India’s aerospace industry and private sector involvement in military projects.
