The Maharashtra Assembly Elections pits the ruling Mahayuti alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena, against the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), a coalition of Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Exit polls suggest a close race, with 31% of voters favouring incumbent Chief Minister Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena. Uddhav Thackeray, head of Shiv Sena (UBT), follows with 18%, while Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP has 12% support. Other prominent candidates, including Ajit Pawar of the NCP and Nana Patole of Congress, trail with limited backing.

The election is crucial for determining the future leadership of Maharashtra, a state that contributes significantly to India’s economy with its industrial hubs, including Mumbai, the country’s financial capital.
