India’s renewable energy capacity reached over 200 GW in October 2024, marking a significant achievement towards its goal of 500 GW from non-fossil sources by 2030. The Central Electricity Authority reported renewable energy generation at 203.18 GW, a 13.5% increase from October 2023. Including 8,180 MW of nuclear energy, non-fossil capacity rose to 211.36 GW, representing nearly half of India’s 452.69 GW total electricity capacity. Solar power leads with 92.12 GW, followed by wind at 47.72 GW and hydroelectric power at 52 GW, reflecting India’s shift towards a cleaner energy mix and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.
