At the India Mobile Congress 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India's progress towards 6G rollout following its 5G success. He highlighted India's emergence as a smartphone manufacturing hub, with over 200 units now operating compared to just two in 2014. The Prime Minister noted that India has become a mobile phone exporter, producing six times more phones domestically. PM Modi also emphasised plans to build a full Made-in-India smartphone, investing heavily in creating a semiconductor ecosystem to support this goal.
