India's electorate now has over 99 crore voters. There has been a 2.2% growth in the number of voters, recorded since the last special summary revision of electoral rolls in 2024. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced on Tuesday that the country may soon have 100 crore or one billion voters.
The USA has the second largest electorate with 24.4 crore voters. Kumar was speaking at a press conference, which was called to announce the Delhi election schedule.
As data for Nagaland, Sikkim, and the UT of Chandigarh is based on draft rolls, the 99-crore figure may soon see an upward revision.
The final electoral rolls for Nagaland and Sikkim will be published on Tuesday, and for Chandigarh, it will be released on January 10.
According to The Times of India, as many as 50.7 crore Indian electors are male, while 48.3 crore are women and 48,870 belong to the third gender.
With 15.3 crore voters, Uttar Pradesh tops the chart in the 2025 updated electoral rolls. With 9.8 crore voters overall, Maharashtra comes second, followed by Bihar (7.8 crore), Bengal (7.6 crore), and Tamil Nadu (6.3 crore). Lakshadweep has the highest voter-to-population ratio (82.2), followed by Kerala (77.1) and Bengal (75.1).
