The Indian government announced that it has reached an agreement with China regarding "patrolling arrangements" and a military standoff at the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The announcement was made by Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary of India, just before Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Russia for the BRICS summit. PM Modi is likely to have talks with the Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Mistri added that India and China have been in constant talks for a border patrolling agreement in recent weeks. Also, the two sides would now take the “next steps” on this issue.

The Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, said “With that, we have gone back to where the situation was in 2020. With that, we can say the disengagement process with China has been completed."
