Farooq Ahmad Bhat, the operational chief of the Hizbul Mujahideen, a Pakistan-affiliated Islamist militant organisation, was killed in a operation by the security forces in Kulgam district, south Kashmir. Bhat, a senior commander and one of the group's longest-surviving militants, was an A++ category militant. Four other terrorists died in the encounter, and two soldiers sustained injuries. The operation led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and explosives. The killing of Bhat is considered a significant blow to Hizbul Mujahideen's operations in the region.
