The Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report naming Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following the BJP’s complaint against the Congress leaders alleged involvement in Thursday’s violent pushing and shoving at the Parliament door.

The complaint was registered under several sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (the revised Indian Penal Code) including 109 (attempt to murder), 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 117 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention). However, the police have removed the attempt to murder section of the complaint.

The Congress party has termed the FIR against Rahul a "diversionary tactic", which the BJP government is using to distract attention from the political embarrassment 0ver Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on BR Ambedkar.

The events that transpired in Parliament led to further violence elsewhere: the Congress party's main office in Mumbai was attacked by BJP Yuva Morcha (youth wing). The incident involved vandalism and stone-pelting. The protesters also defaced a Rahul Gandhi portrait by throwing ink on it.

In clarification, BJP workers alleged that the Congress party had insulted BR Ambedkar. 30-40 FIRs have been registered against BJP workers and police have detained 14 individuals.

According to sources cited by the Times of India, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has strictly instructed that no political party can protest at the House's building gates following the altercation outside the Parliament door on Thursday.
