India's eight core industries recorded a 3.1% growth in October 2024, up from 2% in September, according to government data.

Coal production increased by 7.8%, while crude oil and natural gas output declined by 4.8% and 1.2%, respectively. Petroleum refinery production, which constitutes 28.04% of the Index of Core Industries (ICI), grew by 5.2% year-on-year in October, with cumulative growth at 2.7% for April-October 2024-25. Steel production rose by 4.2%, cement by 3.3%, and electricity generation by 0.6%, while fertiliser production recorded a modest 0.4% growth.
