The Lok Sabha (Lower House) and Rajya Sabha (Upper House) were adjourned after clashes erupted between the Congress party and the BJP over Amit Shah’s comments on Ambedkar.
As the houses were getting convened, there was pushing and shoving at one of the doors with BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claiming that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi caused a commotion that ended in Sarangi falling and hurting his head.
Rahul countered that he was stopped from entering Parliament by BJP MPs and that there was pushing and shoving. "Nothing happens to me when I am pushed," he told reporters later.
Sarangi and another BJP MP Mukesh Rajput were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for a check-up. Later BJP MPs lodged a policed complaint against Rahul Gandhi with the Congress too filing a counter-complaint.
The opposition protested inside the Parliament complex holding pictures of BR Ambedkar, demanding the Home Minister's resignation.
Mallikarjun Kharge, President of the Congress party and the Leader of Opposition in the Upper House made a similar accusation of assault by some BJP MPs. He wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker urging inquiry into the scuffle.
Rahul Gandhi also chaired a meeting of Congress MPs in Parliament to discuss the ongoing stalemate in both the Houses.
Meanwhile, JP Nadda, BJP's leader of the Upper House, put out an X thread alleging Congress’ repeated acts of disrespect towards BR Ambedkar:
Adding to this bitter exchange of allegations, Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak has written to the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, alleging misbehaviour by Rahul while she was protesting. Konyak claims Gandhi approached her despite a designated passage for MPs, pushed her, shouted at her, and made her feel uncomfortable with his close physical proximity.
