The Indian Army had removed from the Army chief's office the iconic painting based on the photograph of Pakistani General Niazi signing the instrument of surrender bringing to an end the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation war. The painting, which formed the prominent backdrop in the office of the Chief of Army Staff was replaced by another painting of no particular historical significance, drawing flak from the Opposition and the 1971 war veterans. In the face of stiff criticism the Army has shifted the 1971 painting to the Manekshaw Centre in Delhi on Victory Day on Monday.
