Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal announced a monthly honorarium of ₹18,000 ($210) for priests in city temples and clerics in gurdwaras if the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) retains power in the Delhi assembly polls scheduled for February. Named the 'Pujari-Granthi Samman Yojana,' the scheme will be launched on Tuesday, with Kejriwal personally registering priests of the Hanuman Temple in Rajiv Chowk, followed by a citywide enrolment drive.

Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party chief Virendra Sachdeva criticised the announcement as a "populist" tactic to maintain power. Kejriwal's announcement came after Imams –- the Muslim clerics –- protested outside Kejriwal's residence against their delayed salaries.
